Alove of the outdoors and hiking our beautiful trails of this region with camera in hand has evolved into an award-winning business for Susan Dykstra.

“I started to take photographs on my hiking expeditions and soon after people began asking me if they could buy my images. So it started from there till it now is a full time business,” Dykstra says.

As proprietor of Window Light Photo Gallery, she oversees all aspects of the enterprise, from producing images to marketing and selling. She is scaling back the day-to-day end of things and now has an agency taking care of the business. Customers can still order photos directly from her website, such as canvas, metals, framed photos and prints.

“This frees up a tremendous amount of time for me just to concentrate on capturing images,” she says. Her focus is the captivating landscape in and around Lake Superior

“I live in an area of Canada that is so unique,” she says. “My images provide a connection with people, whether it be a memory or a mood. I try to convey an emotion in every one of my images.”

Dykstra comes by her craft as a keen enthusiast. While selftaught, she learned by the examples of the master photographers of the world. A member of the Professional Photographers of Canada, Dykstra has received numerous awards and accreditations, including Photographic Artist of the Year in Ontario 2015 and 2016.
