Debra Chenier offers the Flavour of New York Galleries to Thunder Bay

“Art collecting is exciting and addictive with no known cure,” says Debra Chenier. “Once you know the joy of living with fine art, department store art will no longer have the same appeal.”

In 1964 her parents opened the Gallery of Fine Arts, the first of its type in Northwestern Ontario. Young Debra immersed herself in the world of contemporary art and at the age of 10 she expressed a desire to one day operate her own gallery. In 1980 she graduated from university with a Fine Arts degree, and in 2007 opened Chenier Fine Arts.

Her iconic Court Street shop is the only commercial art gallery between Winnipeg and Toronto that specializes in exceptional quality original art by both emerging and established Canadian artists who all show nationally. The variety of styles, the impressive selection of diverse artworks and large format paintings showcased at Chenier’s newly expanded gallery is more typical of art galleries found in large metropolitan centres.The 60 artists that Debra represents have each developed a style that is recognizably unique to themselves.
