A passion for technology has fuelled Joe Daniele’s professional life.

After graduating from the electrical engineering program at Lakehead University, Joe worked at various local electronic repair shops before launching his career with Bombardier. Over the next decade he rose to supervise the Methods Department, overseeing the staff who wrote procedures to build the fleet of streetcar and subway cars as well as the CNC (Computer Numerical Control) programmers who created the programs to automate the operations of the plasma, laser, punch, routers and milling machines.

While a student, he began working with microprocessors, just as the first personal computers were hitting the market. With a desire to work in the IT field, Joe left Bombardier after 13 years, working as an independent contractor. In 2001 joined the local branch of MicroAge, a chain of independently-owned IT service providers.

“MicroAge is the largest IT franchise in Canada,” Joe explains. “We have the knowledge and strength of 38 MicroAge across Canada at our fingertips.”

Now owner and general manager of MicroAge Thunder Bay, Joe and his staff of eight provide a variety of services, including maintenance and support, network security, software, managed services, mobility and cloud solutions.

While most of their clients are corporate, Joe offers some simple advice for anyone who uses a computer.

“If you are not backing up your personal data —meaning at least two copies not connected to your PC— then talk to an IT person you can trust to help you achieve this,” he suggests.

Along with a sterling reputation in the computer field, Joe is also well-known for his sideline gig with the band Ti Amo. Launched in 1986, Joe plays lead guitar with his wife Laura as the lead singer. A staple at weddings, corporate events and festivals, the group’s repertoire ranges from traditional ballroom, Italian/ethnic, as well as classic rock, country and contemporary pop.

In addition to performing, Joe enjoys working in his home recording studio.
